The Chinese Challenge 2011 by the Promote Mandarin Council

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
The following terms and conditions and any revisions or amendments thereafter imposed from time to time by the Promote Mandarin Council ("PMC") shall apply to The Chinese Challenge ("TCC"), conducted and organised by the PMC.
1. Eligibility
(a) Subject to Clause 1(b), The Chinese Challenge 2011 (TCC 2011) is open to all Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents students currently studying in a local primary school or secondary school, age up to 17 years only.
(b) PMC Secretariat and National Library Board employees, and their immediate family members, who have been directly involved in the conceptualisation, development and execution of TCC 2011 are not eligible to enter in TCC 2011. Partner organisations, their affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies, and their immediate family members, are also not eligible to participate in TCC 2011.
(c) A participant's failure to provide true and accurate information when participating in The Chinese Challenge will automatically disqualify the participant.
2. How to Participate
(a) To participate in The Chinese Challenge 2011, the student participant will have to register their particulars including the school they are studying in, on The Chinese Challenge Website (www.thechinesechallenge.sg). Each participant, identified by his or her NRIC number, will be assigned a maximum of one user account.
(b) For schools to be eligible for the School Prizes, students of the school must include the name of the school when they register for a user account. For the School Prizes, only entries from students who are are accepted.
(c) The Chinese Challenge starts from 4 July 2011 and ends on 14 August 2011. The participant can login to the website weekly to answer the questions in order to score points for The Chinese Challenge.
(d) All information submitted by participants shall become the property of PMC. Information collected from the participants may be used to update them on promotions, services, programmes and events run by PMC and partners, or to compile statistics.
3. The Chinese Challenge
(a) Online quizzes commence on Tuesday 4 July 2011 at 1200hrs. Over the following 6 weeks, new questions will be available on the website from 1000hrs on Mondays weekly. The qualifying period for the weekly quizzes is from 1000hrs on Monday to 2200hrs on Sunday of the same week. For the first week of the contest, the qualifying period will be from 1000hrs on Tuesday (4 July) to 2200hrs on Sunday (10 July).
(b) Weekly Prizes: Every week, results from the online quiz will be tabulated. Three participants with the highest scores for the period will win attractive prizes. In the event where there are more than three top scoring participants, a computerised draw will be conducted to select the winners.

(c) School Prizes: Qualifying period for School Prizes is from 4 July 2011 to 14 August 2011. Schools will be awarded for their students’ participation in The Chinese Challenge. The results will be tabulated based on quiz scores from the qualifying period of 6 weeks.
(d) Prizes will be awarded to school based on:
i. Best average score
ii. Most number of student participants

(e) The Chinese Challenge 2011 Finals: Qualifying period for TCC 2011 Grand Finals is from 4 July 2011 to 14 August 2011. At the end of the 6 weeks, the scores from all quizzes will be tabulated. The top scorers from the 6 weeks will qualify for participation in the Grand Finals.
(f) A computerised draw will be conducted to select, among top scorers, participants for The Chinese Challenge 2011 Grand Finals. In addition, these student participants will have to attend an audition from which six finalists will be selected to participate in the Grand Finals.
(g) The total of six selected student participants will compete in TCC 2011 Grand Finals, which is a televised game show scheduled for September*. The prizes awarded to the winners will be based on their participation in the game show.
* Date of televised game show may be subject to change.

(h) All prizes are non-refundable and non-transferable. PMC reserves the right at its sole discretion and without notice to change any prize(s) or to substitute any prize(s) with one of similar value in the event of unavailability. No prize is exchangeable or redeemable for cash.
(i) PMC shall not be responsible for lost, late, incomplete or misdirected entries, howsoever caused, or for any entries received after qualifying periods described above as a consequence of any delay, interruption or failure in submission of entries to PMC for whatever reason.
(j) PMC reserves the right at its sole discretion to shorten and/or extend the duration of the qualifying period and/or amend, modify, delete, replace or revise in PMC’s sole discretion, the terms and conditions of The Chinese Challenge, without any notification to the public or incurring any liability to any party whatsoever.
4. Notification of Winners
(a) The winners of the Weekly Prizes, School Prizes and TCC 2011 Finals will be announced on The Chinese Challenge Website. The winners of TCC 2011 Finals will also be announced on MyPaper.
(b) The winners will also be notified by ordinary post and/or email.
(c) Winners of Weekly Prizes, School Prizes and TCC 2011 Finals will be required to proceed to the following library office for the collection of prizes:

(d) Winners are to bring along identification documents such as the Identification Card and Student Pass, for verification purposes upon collection of the prizes.
(e) In all circumstance, PMC’s decision shall be final and binding and no correspondence will be entertained.
5. Unclaimed Prizes
(a) If unclaimed for three months after the date of the games, all unclaimed prizes shall be forfeited and donated to a charity chosen at the discretion of PMC and no claims whatsoever for payment or compensation shall be entertained.
6. Participants are Bound by PMC’s Official Rules & Governing Law
(a) By participation in The Chinese Challenge 2011, each participant agrees to be bound by the official rules, terms and conditions or such other rules and regulations as imposed by PMC. Each participant shall also be deemed to submit to all decisions of PMC, which shall be final and binding on all matters relating to The Chinese Challenge 2011.
